Fear not, we will still be based in Leeds at our Castleton Mill home.
Due to a sustained period of growth, we will be leaving our current space for a larger office within the Castleton Mill complex that will allow us to continue our expansion.
These are exciting times for The Music Consortium (TMC), and we are delighted to be continuing our relationship with the wonderful team behind this historic building.
Whilst we are excited to be moving into a new space, we are taking this opportunity to reminisce about the years spent in our top floor office.
TMC has been based here for 7 years since moving from our previous office in Wakefield.
Since arriving in Leeds, TMC has expanded significantly. Starting out as a small team of individuals, there is now a team of over 10 working in the office and over 500 crew members now making up the TMC family.
In this time we have supplied our crewing and production services to events across the UK and Ireland, with notable events including Leeds Festival, Electric Picnic, Radio 1’s Big Weekend, Lollapalooza Berlin and venues such as First Direct Arena Leeds, York Barbican, Wembley Arena, Co-op Arena, and more!
Everyone in the team has grown significantly and their lives are vastly different than they were when we first moved in. As a result, the team have been looking back fondly on these times and would like to share a few words.
Spike:
What is your favourite memory from working in this office?
Having the current Chancellor of the Exchequer Rt Hon Rachel Reeves pay us a visit back in 2021!
What is your favourite gig you’ve done whilst working in this office?
In no particular order: Either Sting at Malahide Castle, Pa Sheehy, The Scratch & Lankum, at Electric Picnic or Richard Ashcroft at Marlay Park. A MAZ ING
What are you hoping to achieve in the new office?
To provide ample provision for the team to work in a decent environment and feel comfortable in doing so. To outgrow the space as quickly as possible so that we need to move into an even larger space within three years.
Sam:
What is your favourite memory from working in this office?
Finding the time to go and watch PULP at Latitude – Jarvis Cocker LOVED it.
Watching the band gave me very fond memories of working the Lake Stage with my late mate Kev.
Jarvis came and did a DJ session on the lake stage – it was fantastic.
What is your favourite gig you’ve done whilst working in this office?
Think everyone else will groan at this one but my favourite gigs are always going to be the sports gigs, especially anything horse related (of course).
I loved working on the Liverpool International Horse Show every Christmas.
What have you learned whilst working in this office?
I learned that we need to implement a clear desk policy and look into getting a cleaner when we move in!
We also need a specific area for chilling out so we can get people away from their computer for once (ha-ha!).
Looking forward to the move.
Katie:
Favourite memory you have from working in this office?
One memory that always stands out is when the tour bus arrives to pick up the team for the trip to Electric Picnic.
I love seeing everyone excited for the bus to arrive, knowing that we will be having a great weekend working on the main stage and having a real laugh on the trip to and from.
My personal favourite part of that trip is the end of season quiz which always features the best moments from across that year!
Favourite gig you’ve done whilst working in this office?
It’s hard to narrow it down to one gig as I enjoy all of the events we do for different reasons, but I would have to say Latitude.
As the gig is at the peak of the summer the weather is usually on our side, and the festival site is lovely. It’s a fantastic festival to work and we always have a good time playing games in the camp after our work is done, so I look forward to the gig every year.
What am I looking forward to in the new office?
The thing I am looking forward to most is the increase in space and the potential for growth that this brings. As a company we are always looking to improve and expand, so this feels like a big step in the right direction!
Callum:
What is your favourite memory from working in this office?
I don’t have one specific memory that springs to mind, but instead it would just be the thousands of laughs we’ve had over the years.
We’ve put in some very early mornings and some seriously late nights in this office, and we’ve had a great time doing it! I wouldn’t change these memories for the world.
What is your favourite gig you’ve done whilst working in this office?
My favourite gig would have to be The Weeknd at Marlay Park – Dublin. Not only is he one of my favourite artists but this was also a massive show that was logistically challenging. When we got the job done it was extremely rewarding to see through.
On a personal level, it was fun to go over to Ireland for the first time and make great memories with my brother who was on the crew!
What has changed for you in the time you have worked in this office?
When I joined the office, I was very green, and I didn’t have a whole lot of life experience.
Through my work I have had the opportunity to develop myself both personally and professionally, and I feel like I have really grown into myself since joining the office!
Larry:
What is your favourite memory from working in this office?
My favourite memories revolve around the preparation we do for the festivals.
Working as a team to prepare for these gigs, organise the logistics and pack our equipment is challenging but interesting, and I have really enjoyed taking it on.
What is your favourite gig you’ve done whilst working in this office?
Easy – Fontaines DC at Leeds Fest!
Their new album was great, and they played a few of the good tracks but also included some bangers from their past albums. ‘Televised Mind’ live is wicked!
What excites you about the office move?
The most exciting thing about the office move is being in a new space and seeing what the future brings whilst were based here.
I can’t wait to get stuck in.
Thanks:
We would like to extend our thanks to the team at Castleton Mill for making this a smooth process, and give a special thank you to the crew for their hard work to get the move done!
